Fire in fireplace and I am still cold. Why?

This is the problem. What will we find under the facing. |
 After removing the old face, what we found was quite an eye opener. No insulation had ever been installed! It was like the house had never been completely closed up. The fireplace was not inside the envelope of the house. No wonder they were always cold! Imagine the fuel expense because of this mistake. |
